Dryer not heating: common causes before repair
A dryer that tumbles but does not heat may have an airflow restriction, failed heating element, thermal fuse, thermostat, sensor, or control issue. Clean the lint screen, check that the exterior vent opens freely, and avoid running repeated cycles if you smell burning. How the symptom is diagnosed
Dryer diagnosis begins with airflow and operating temperature because restricted venting can create long cycles, repeated thermal-fuse failures, excess heat, and a burning smell. We then test the heating circuit or gas ignition system as appropriate, followed by thermostats, sensors, drum drive parts, and electronic controls. The exact sequence depends on whether the dryer has no heat, intermittent heat, no tumble, unusual noise, or a cycle that ends too soon.
